VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE CASSIDY SCIENCE FAIR ON 1/21

Volunteers are needed for this year’s Science Fair on Thursday, January 21st. To help make the Science Fair a success, we need:

  • 2-3 parents (who do not have children with submitted projects) to serve as runners and to tally scores (not to serve as judges as previously written)
  • Breakfast item donations for the judges

GREAT JOB TO OUR CASSIDY MUSICIANS!

Wow! It was a packed house last Thursday evening for the Cassidy Winter Concert. Congratulations to all members of the Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Choristers, and D.R.U.M. for an amazing concert! And a huge thank you to Ms. Oliver, Mrs. Williams, and Mr. Chamberlain, fearless leaders of these ensembles. AND thank you to all of the Cassidy staff who support our music program and who made the evening possible!

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO VOLUNTEERED FOR AND DONATED TO THE GOD’S PANTRY FOOD DRIVE!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to collect donations for the God’s Pantry Food Drive, and to everyone who donated. The food drive was a huge success – in her Friday podcast, Ms. Fister said that over 10 barrels of food were collected! Amazing! Thanks for helping to make our community a better place for everyone.

CASSIDY’S SLOT CAR CLUB IS OFFICIALLY FULL!

From Mr. Shelby:

The 2015-2016 Cassidy School STLP Slot Car Club is now full! All the open slots that were available have now been filled on a first come first served basis. Here are the names of this year’s club members: Finn Kenny, Ty Clark, Fernando Hislop, Riley Hunter, Joseph Reed, Christopher Cox, Ezra Blackman, and Sydney Shelby. Parents, thank you for allowing your kids to participate in this year’s club. Looking forward to a fun year.

Kindergarten Screening Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers to assist with the Kindergarten Screenings on Monday, August 3rd.  We will need 2 volunteers for each two-hour shift to assist with signing in Kindergarten students, provide PTA and Cassidy info to the Kindergarten students parents and walk students to the screenings in the library.  The shifts are as follows:

9 – 11 am

11 am – 1pm

1 – 3 pm

3 – 5 pm

5 – 7 pm

Field Day Volunteers Needed for Wednesday, May 27th

We need Field Day Volunteers for Wednesday, May 27th from 8 or 8:30 a.m. until approximately Noon. Volunteers will need to meet at the track for further directions on duties required for the events. We will also need bottles of water (cold if possible) and bags of ice. See the volunteer spot link below to sign up for a shift to assist at the event or to bring requested donations. If you bring coolers or baskets please be sure they have your name on them. We will either put them in the gym or outside by school/carpool line after field day for you to pick up in the afternoon.

Remember to give your child some sort of water bottle that morning with their name on it. They will be able to refill as needed throughout the event.

THANK YOU FOR THE CASSIDY SPRING CONCERT & ART SHOW!

WOW – thank you to everyone who came to support our Cassidy musicians and artists at the Spring Concert and Art Show last week. There was an absolutely PACKED house to hear performances by the Orchestra, Band, Chorus, D.R.U.M., Choristers, and K-1 Singers, and throughout the entire school artwork by all students was displayed thanks to Ms. Gilpin and her helpers (you can still come and see it – check outside your child’s classroom to see their masterpiece if you missed it!).

Special thanks to Ms. Oliver, Ms. Fister, Dr. Hart, Mr. Chandler and his staff, and all of our teachers and staff for supporting the Music program! Thanks also to Mr. Chamberlain for directing the Band, and Mrs. Williams for leading the Orchestra. And thank you to Ms. Gilpin for adding the Art Show to this year’s Spring Concert! We are so lucky to have a school community that supports the arts!

Longer School Days Start April 20th!

Beginning on April 20th, the school day will be extended by 30 minutes until the end of the year to make up snow days. School will start at 8:25 am and be dismissed at 3:45. Bus routes will not changed except that drop off will be 30 minutes later.logo- black on black

CLOTHING DRIVE AT CASSIDY: 4/6 – 4/17

For the next two weeks, Cassidy will have a clothing drive for the Lexington Women’s Club. We will be collecting donations from Monday April 6th through Friday April 17th. Clothing will be donated to FCPS children sizes 5T-14, and donations need to be new or gently used. The items most needed include: shorts, jeans, shirts, dresses, pajamas, backpacks, lunch boxes, sweatshirts, sweatpants, hair bows and other accessories. Donations can be dropped off inside the back door at Cassidy. Thank you for your generosity!

Cassidy Variety Show Coming Soon!

REMINDER: CASSIDY’S SPRING BOOK FAIR IS COMING 3/9 – 3/13

Get ready to shop! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Cassidy March 9th through March 13th. The fair will be open from 8:00am-3:30pm daily, as well as during the Family Events listed below. (Note: We will close at noon on Friday, March 13th.)

  • Grownups and Donuts is Tuesday, March 10th (7:00-8:30am). Enjoy breakfast, then browse through the books! Any family member or adult friend is welcome to shop with students.
  • Fazoli’s Family Spaghetti Supper is Thursday, March 12th (5:30-7:30pm). Share a spaghetti meal and shop at the book fair. Make it a family affair by inviting grandparents or other family members to eat and shop with you!

Ms. Adams would like everyone to know that there are LOTS of fun activities planned for our Book Fair Under the Sea theme. We think you will enjoy the excitement and atmosphere! Plus, proceeds from this event are deposited into the library fund to help buy books and purchase materials for our school. Thanks for supporting the Cassidy library by shopping at the book fair!

Our school is participating in a healthy, creative fundraiser with Art to Remember. Right now, your children are busy creating colorful, fun artwork in school. LEARN & PLAY CLASSES FOR TODDLERS AND PARENTS/CAREGIVERS

The Parent and Family Enrichment Center is offering new Learn & Play classes for children ages 2-3 years and their parents/caregivers. Enjoy play and learning activities with your child, and learn some useful parenting tools under the guidance of early childhood professionals and parent educators! Classes will be held on Tuesday mornings from 9:30am-11:30am at Crestwood Christian Church (by Tates Creek & Alumni). Jump Rope For Heart – March 16-20th

Jump Rope For Heart will be held the week of March 16-20. Money envelops with donations will be turned in on the due date of March 16th. Mr. Shelby will collect late donations throughout the week of March 16-20. Information packets with donation envelops will go home with students. The Cassidy Science Fair is just around the corner, on January 15th. We need YOUR help feeding our generous volunteer judges from around the community! Please let us know if you can donate one (or more!) of the following items by emailing Becky Rudd atwakirudd@hotmail.com as soon as possible:

Winter Music Concert THIS Thursday December 4th at 6:30pm

There will also be a performance during school at 1:30pm.  We are thrilled to share the stage with the Cassidy Orchestra and Cassidy Band!

 

Here’s everything you need to know about Thursday:

 Concert Attire: We will wear our Music Program tee-shirts with Black bottoms (pants/leggings/skirt/etc.) and Black shoes.  Don’t worry—I  will pass out tee-shirts on Thursday morning.  Please send students to school wearing a short sleeved tee-shirt, black bottoms, and black(ish) shoes.

 Choristers: We WILL rehearse on Thursday morning at 7:45am.  We will use this time to pass out tee-shirts and run through the concert order.

 Evening Call Time: Students should arrive at 6:00pm on Thursday evening.  We will meet in my classroom (Rm. 120).  Warm-ups begin promptly at 6:00pm!
